We have a common goal to improve the lives of people with learning difficulties around Peterborough & Cambridgeshire and are working to grow our network to reach more people who could benefit from the free specialised music provision we offer, especially during lockdown.

We at Soundabout believe that people with learning disabilities should have an interactive musical life that enhances their lives and education. We have an extensive weekly timetable of online music sessions for people with complex and additional needs (available here) and wanted to highlight specific projects that you may be interested in (please click on each one to open the page):

Soundabout Peterborough & Cambridgeshire Choir – A musical community without barriers, for all ages and abilities, with a focus on giving a voice to people with severe and profound learning disabilities (SLD & PMLD). Currently run virtually on Zoom.

Little Soundabout – One to one sessions and FREE music resources for children in the early years (aged 0-5) with PMLD. Virtual sessions available at the moment.

Soundabout Life – One to one sessions and FREE music resources for young adults (19-25) with PMLD. Virtual sessions available at the moment.

Our sessions are free with the exception of our Home School and After School Clubs which are £5 each, I have attached the full timetable to this email.

We are also running our ‘Moveabout’ challenge here to inspire our supporters to stay active during Winter and help raise funds for our musical community.

If you know of anyone who would benefit from joining our community then please pass our information on. We will also connect with you on Social Media to help grow the community further.

All the best and please get in touch if you have any further questions!

Quote from a Soundabout parent: ‘’Your live sessions have been such a gift to me and A. They’ve been an utter joy to be part of. A. has no vision so has no idea you’re behind an iPad screen and when she hears her name, she reacts in the same way she wound if you were with her in person. We’ve laughed, danced, made all sorts of weird and wonderful noises and you’ve brought fun, love and laughter to our living room almost every day over the last few weeks as we’ve listened to your stories over and over and got together our props with great excitement as to what’s coming in future sessions. Thank you so much for being so reactive to the current crisis and reaching out to families without exception, many of whom you’ve never and will never meet in person. You’ve been one of our greatest lockdown gifts and many beautiful things have come out of this awful pandemic and I hope they remain beyond it, as for so many families, there will never be a normal!”.
