Can you help us with our fund raising bag packing event at Oxney Road, Peterborough 15th November 10 – 2pm. Everyone welcome, contact Laura Tilley or message the Facebook group please.

We are delighted to announce that The Peterborough School has chosen PADSG as their main charity for this school year. Championed by Charlotte Hayes, who is the charities prefect at the school. We were selected from a number of deserving local and national charities.
The school presented a cheque to last years charity, Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice at their annual speech day at Peterborough Cathedral last month. They raised a large sum, so we are very excited that Charlotte and the school have chosen to raise money for our group.
Not only will the school help with fundraising the six form students are hoping to volunteer and both our drop in sessions in Paston and Casterton and many other events through out the year!
Chris King and Laura Tilley have been invited to speak at an upcoming assembly in November.
A very exciting time ahead!!!

Our Group has been chosen to be Charity of the Year by two separate organisations – SAINSBURYS in Oxney Road and The Peterborough High School. This is fabulous news and once again, will bring many opportunities for us to raise awareness about Downs Syndrome and also to raise money for our group. We are working closely with both organisations and will keep you posted about forthcoming events.

Our first organised event with Sainsburys is a ‘Bag Pack’ at the Oxney Road Store on Saturday 15th November between 10am and 2pm. Obviously, the more people we have helping out, the more money we will raise for our group so please do consider helping, even if you can only manage a half an hour.

This session aimed at under the 5s continues to take place once a month at Happy Faces in Glinton, Peterborough. Children have the opportunity to play, sing and sign. The next sessions are from 10 – 11.30am on the following Saturdays – 18th October, 8th November and 13th December.

Saturday 18th October, Kingsgate Conference Centre
This event has been brought to our attention by Peterborough City Council. It is a film and TV convention open to all but priority is given to disabled guests, their families & friends. There will be tactile costumes, props, vehicles and some celebrities from the big screen including Warwick Davis, Hannah Spearritt, Virginia Hey & Holli Dempsey. Tickets for this event cost £2.50 (Carers go for free) and can be purchased from Peterborough Tourist Information Centre. Alternatively, you can purchase tickets via the website at www.feeltheforceday.com

IMG_2872As reported earlier the Institute held its 2014 Race Night on 3rd April at The Posh ground. It was a hugely successful event which managed to raise £830.00 for one of its chosen charities, The Peterborough Area Downs Syndrome Group.
The group first started when a small group of parents decided to set up a local charity to support parents, carers and people with Down’s Syndrome in Peterborough and the surrounding areas. Over 10 years on and 120 members later, the charity offers support and information through regular drop-in sessions, speech and language therapy and an active social calendar. The charity is affiliated to the national charity the Down’s Syndrome Association and membership to our charity is free for families, carers and people with Down’s Syndrome. On 3rd June, Tara Cook, Social Secretary for the Institute, went along to visit the group at the Honeyhill Centre in Paston to present a cheque for the proceeds of our event to a very grateful Laura Tilley (Group Chair). The money will go towards supporting their members with speech or play therapy.Well done and heartfelt thanks to all who help raise this fantastic sum.http://www.localinstitutes.cii.co.uk/peterborough/AboutUs/News/tabid/2709/Default.aspx
