I have decided to run The Great Eatern Run for the Peterborough Area Down’s Syndrome Group because it’s a place where young people and adults with Down’s Syndrome can meet with their friends in a fun and welcoming place. The charity regularly arranges afternoons out and arrange dance, sport and games sessions for the group.

Any money that I can raise for Peterborough Area Down’s Syndrome Group would help these brilliant and enjoyable sessions to continue.

All donations are greatly appreciated.

EXCITING NEWS!

Our Group has been chosen to be Charity of the Year by two separate organisations – SAINSBURYS in Oxney Road and The Peterborough High School. This is fabulous news and once again, will bring many opportunities for us to raise awareness about Downs Syndrome and also to raise money for our group. We are working closely with both organisations and will keep you posted about forthcoming events.

Our first organised event with Sainsburys is a ‘Bag Pack’ at the Oxney Road Store on Saturday 15th November between 10am and 2pm. Obviously, the more people we have helping out, the more money we will raise for our group so please do consider helping, even if you can only manage a half an hour.

Co-Op Manager Mark Balding with staff and Family before having his legs waxed for the Charity the Peterborough Area Down's Syndrome Group

Friends, families, staff and customers at the Stanground Co-Op store helped raise valuable funds on Saturday the 14th December. With cakes, name the bear, tombola and manager Mark Balding having legs waxed they couldn’t help but dig into their pockets to help out.

A massive thank you to all those involved and those that came and supported the group.

bike

Many of you will be aware of the difficulties that can arise when children with Downs Syndrome are learning to ride a bike. We are very fortunate to have the skills and expertise of Richard Cooper from www.ridingabike.co.uk who has kindly offered to run two sessions for PADSG. One session will be held at Visions in Stamford on Saturday 12th October at 3-5pm. Another session will be held at Honeyhill Children’s Centre on Tuesday 15th October at 4.30-6pm. All members will need to bring their own bike and helmet. Siblings are welcome too. To give us an idea of numbers or for any questions please contact Maggie Scott on 01780 444233 or maggie_scott236@btinternet.com

bodyshop

We are using our links with POSH to the full and have organised a Body Shop party to be held at the London Road on Friday 18th October at 7.30pm. All money raised will go to PADSG so please come along and try to bring as many friends and family members as you can! Tickets can be purchased on the door at a bargain price of £3 which includes a drink, cake and entry into the raffle. For more information or to donate a Raffle Prize please contact Jane Jeffries on 07762 035787.

PADSG have been chosen alongside Sue Rider, Thorpe Hall Capital Appeal to be a sponsored charity for Peterborough United Football Team for the 2013-14 Season. This is a great opportunity for our group. Some of our members attended the POSH press day and had photographs taken with the players and two of our members – Jennifer Goodwin and Louis Heppell have also been lucky enough to be Posh Mascots at two recent Peterborough United matches. We will keep you informed of any POSH events that we will be involved with throughout the season.
